Galena yeidls 2 variants from the same ore, lead and silver. These 2 minerals are galena and saltpeter. The last layer is the 'gunpowder' layer, because it sources all the minerals needed to make gunpowder for your muskets and sharpshooters later in the game.
Coal is used for refining higher metals like steel and gold, which provide high-end items for your colony.
The next layer is what I call the 'industrial' layer, in that it is just coal and gold. Later on clay will be needed for bricks if you want to progress in research and technology. 2 iron miners should be a good start to the operation. Iron is the main mineral you will want to use in this layer as the other two are more for cosmetic items and blocks. The next layer you will encounter is the sedimentary layer. And if you are making alot of copper tools or items, I would also add another copper miner just so the copper supply dosen't empty quickly.Įach succeeding layer is about a story down into the earth (about 7 blocks vertically for referrence). Since bronze takes 2 copper and 1 tin for each bronze ingot made, I would setup 2 copper and 1 tin minners respectively to keep a balanced supply for the smelters. You will essentially be clearing out large squares of space for each layer, rather than strip mining or spelunking. When you see the color change, stop at that layer and mine horizontally as that will yield the most ores on the surface of the layer (this also applies to each layer overall). This layer is easy to find as it encounters a change in the stone color from gray to dark gray. When digging down, the first layer will contain copper and tin, both used to make bronze age tools and weapons. In CS, ores spawn at fixed layers in the ground, rather than at random heights like MC.
